week14 (21-July to 24-July)

This week we have a presentation on our assignment; no classes are scheduled. This final design is a very interesting challenge for me. I have learned a lot this semester, such as the use of a sewing machine and the method of manual sewing, but these are all basic knowledge. The important thing is that I learned to make shirts and skirts, and I made my own clothes with my own design, which gave me a sense of accomplishment. In this learning process, from drawing technical drawings to making templates, then cutting out the corresponding fabrics and finally sewing them together. In fact, each step has corresponding difficulties. For example, when drawing technical drawings, I need to measure each circumference of the model, and the error should not be too different when drawing. When cutting the fabric, it is also necessary to determine how and how much each part should be cut. In the process of sewing, I think it is the most difficult part to sew the leader and the belt, because I misse...

Week 13: Final Project Pattern—Sleeve seams, collar seams, and waist cinching. Date: 17 July 2025 Title: Final finishing touch—suture 🏞️ Visual Documentation: 📸 Image 1-Sleeve seams 📸 Image 2-collar seams 📸 Image 3-waist cinching 🧵 Process Summary: This week, I have entered the final stage of my final design. First, I sewed the two sleeves together, locked the edges, and then sewed the collar and waist. I made the waist part roughly in the same way as the sleeves. 🧠 Weekly Reflection: This week, when I was sewing the cuffs, before sewing them, I cut the cuff fabric wrong and had to make two new pieces. There were no problems with the sewing process afterwards. 📹 [Optional Video Clip]: cuff sewing

Week 11: Technical drawing of front and back of shirt and sleeves Date: 3 July 2025 Title: Drawing of front and back of shirt and sleeves 🏞️ Visual Documentation: 📸 Image 1—Technical drawing of front and back of shirt 📸 Image 2—Technical drawing of sleeves 🧵 Process Summary: Today I used Mahjong paper to create technical drawings of the front, back and sleeves of the shirt 🧠 Weekly Reflection: The front and back of the shirt I drew today are different from the basic shirts I made before. Because I planned to make the shirt short and have a bulging feeling like a lantern sleeve at the bottom, I felt a little difficulty during the drawing process. Then when I was drawing the technical drawings for the sleeves, because my sleeves were different from the previous basic styles, I wanted to make lantern sleeves. I felt very difficult during the drawing process and couldn't find the direction. But then I saw the drawing process that Melina searched on Pinterest and I got a clue. 📹 [...

week10 (23-June to 27-June)

Week 10: Make a skirt out of linen Date: 26 June 2025 Title: Make a skirt out of linen 🏞️ Visual Documentation: 🧵 Process Summary: Because I had already drawn the pattern for the skirt last week, I cut the fabric directly from the linen and sewed it together. 🧠 Weekly Reflection: When I cut the fabric, I cut the back part into two pieces, and then I did it again. I think I may not remember these basics very well. 📹 [Optional Video Clip]: learning video

week9 (16-June to 20-June)

This week we start doing our final design pattern. Based on the model's waist and hip circumference, we need to make one suitable skirt for the model who is our choice. I choose KAIYING to be my model, so all the data is about her. At the beginning, I wanted to make one basic skirt and many patterns, like butterfly-shaped coverings on it, but this idea was rejected by teacher JR. Reflection This week we start doing our final design; i think it's a big challenge for me. We need to make our design, which is by ourselves. The process of making the skirt was relatively simple for me at the beginning. I was confident that I could complete the next task smoothly.

week8 (9-June to 13-June)

This week we start doing the shirt.Ms. Melina gave us some models about kinds of part in the shirt and we need drawing these and cut. The above process is going well, next we need to sew them together. I made some mistakes during the stitching process, but I corrected them with the help of my classmates and Ms. Melina. The pocket seam above is wrong as in the photo. The seam is loose and not very pretty, so I took it apart and re-sewn it. This is the pocket after I made the corrections. During the entire sewing process, I think sewing the collar was the most difficult, which required a lot of positioning stitches, but it was done. In addition to the collar, sewing the sleeves was also difficult, but I forgot to take pictures. I removed the stitches many times during the process and was not satisfied with most of them. The last time I tore the sleeve part and had to cut a new one... Weekly reflection This week we learned to make shirts. I think the process is not too difficult but not e...

week5 (19-May to 23-May)

This week we started making skirts. Ms. Melina showed us the actual skirt, how to sew the zipper, and demonstrated to us how to draw the pattern of the skirt. Then we started drawing. After drawing the picture, we need to cut it out and fix it to the cloth with a positioning pin. Weekly reflection This week's learning task is very simple, which is to make the parts of a skirt. But in this learning process, I learned how the different parts of a skirt look like, and I have a better understanding of the structure of a skirt.

week7 (02-June to 06-June)

图片
This is my seventh PD & GM class.Dr.Melina showed the process of drawing the module of body section. After that, we started our own drawing work. We used the template we made before, so there may be some errors when cutting, so there are some errors in the drawing, but it is correct after the modification. In this drawing session, we also learned how to draw two new parts, one of which is the sleeves, and I’m not sure about the other one 😅. On Monday , Ms. Melina gave us an assignment to draw a pattern for a men's shirt and trousers. Weekly reflection The pictures drawn in this class should lay the foundation for us to make shirts in the future. In the process of drawing, I learned the data of each part of the shirt and how to draw it.

week6 (26-May to 30-May)

图片
This week we are going to use the fabric from the various parts of the skirt we made last week to make a skirt. The two parts where the zipper needs to be sewn need to be attached with two pieces of paper with an iron first. After this, use a dowel pin to secure the zipper to the skirt and sew. Weekly reflection This week we learned how to make a skirt. I think the process of making a skirt is still very simple, but you need to pay attention to the position of the positioning pin. It may be a little difficult to sew the zipper.Because the zipper is invisible on the outside, pay attention to the location.

week4 (12-May to 16-May)

图片
This week we have finished drawing the front and back of the shirt, sleeves, and skirt. Start drawing the pattern of pants After this, it needs to be traced with plastic sheet and cut out. Weekly reflection This week's learning tasks are a bit easy. However, it is a bit troublesome to draw the pants pattern, because we need to put two pieces of paper together. So far, we have learned how to draw the front and back of the shirt, pants, sleeves and skirt patterns.

week3 (05-May to 09-May)

This is my third Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making class.Today we learned two pieces layout in the class begin.Dr.Melina taught us how to draw these two in the calico. And then we try to make it by ourselves. Based on what we have learned before, leave 2.5cm on the bottom and right sides. Leave 1cm on the rest. Then cut out this pattern. After this job,Dr.Melina taught us how to use the sewing machine which one in the classroom. After Dr.Melina showed how to use it,we each tried it once. In the today last class,A very interesting task was assigned by Dr.Melina.She let us to use sewing machine to making eyelets in the paper,i think this work could make us when the progress of sewing clothes in the future, we can make sure the line are straight. And today's last job is Dr.Melina let us to draw a semicircle and a half circle in the calico, then we need to using sewing machine sew along the drawn lines, making five stitches each.(but i forget take the progress pictur...

This is my second Introduction to Pattern Drafting &Garment Making class. At the class begin,Dr.Melina checked our task1 part that we did in the first class. After that,Dr.Melina talked about the basic hand stitches and the rest of task1. I think the progress of hand stitches is very interesting, I like manual work very much. Later,Dr.Melina let us c ut out 1m long mahjong paper and cut into three sizes. The four smallest rectangles will be used as materials for sewing with different sewing machines. Then we began to learn the three different sewing machines. The progress of using sewing machines is very difficult for me.We need to learn how to thread the needle, and the position of each thread is very complicated. Reflection In this class, I learned some basic knowledge about sewing. First, I learned hand sewing, which I found very interesting, probably because I like handwork. Regarding the use of sewing machines, I think the most difficult step is threading the needle, which requ...
