Task 1: SKETCHBOOK-DESIGN DEVELOPMENT&PORTFOLIO
(MANUAL/DIGITAL)
(WEEK1-WEEK6)
WEEK 1 (23/04/2026)
In the first week, Mr. JR explained all the tasks and progress for the entire semester to us.
Our Task 1 is to create a sketchbook. We need to include research, inspiration summaries, inspiration studies, and design drafts in the sketchbook.
Below is an example provided by Mr. JR.
And this semester we're collaborating with the Q-LOGO brand and need to design a sporty black T-shirt for them.
Q-LOGO and the final RTW share the same theme. My theme is “The Measured Body," which is about the extreme psychological problems people may experience when trying to lose weight, such as dieting and binge eating. This inspired my creation.
First, we need to design three black T-shirts based on the inspiration, and then Mr. JR will choose one.
Self-Reflection:
I have many tasks this semester, and I will do my best to complete them. During the creation of the Q-LOGO, I actually had very little inspiration because the fixed black sporty style felt too restrictive for me, which made the design process somewhat difficult.
WEEK 2 (30/04/2026)
This week I completed the final initial drawing of the Q-LOGO and then integrated all the materials into the PowerPoint presentation (including inspiration, mood board, initial drawing, and images of a model wearing the logo).
The following is my first version.
However, Mr. JR said that the price of our designed clothes had to be between RM199 and RM299, so the pattern on the front of my clothes might be a bit too complicated and difficult to control costs, so I changed it to a different version.
Self-Reflection:
Through the Q-LOGO project, I learned that to design clothes, you need to understand the "boss's" requirements: what style they want, what price range they need to be within, and you need to consider a variety of factors.
WEEK 3 (07/05/2026)
This week we need to submit the Q-LOGO presentation. Before that, I sent it to Mr. JR for review, and he said I needed to add a tech pack sheet to it.
Like this:
Then I made another table and put it in the PowerPoint presentation.
With these Q-LOGO elements completed, the entire Q-LOGO project is finished. So I started working on the sketchbook.
This course this semester revolves around convertible fashion, so on the first page of my sketchbook, I wrote the definition of convertible fashion and my understanding of it.
Convertible fashion includes detachable, reversible, adjustable, and multiway. Therefore, I conducted research on each of these four categories separately.
Throughout the process, I found a lot of materials on Pinterest, printed them out, categorized them, and pasted them into my sketchbook. I also wrote some annotations and drew some before-and-after comparison images to make the differences more intuitive.
After conducting research, I selected two more designer/brand works related to convertible fashion to better illustrate the concept of convertible fashion.
I used Hussein Chalayan and ACRONYM as my examples.
Self-Reflection:
The Q-LOGO project is finally finished. I think it will be very helpful for us if we want to work in the apparel company in the future, because this project felt like a real job.
Creating sketchbooks is something I really enjoy doing because I love crafting. During the research process, I also gained a great understanding of convertible fashion and two brands.
WEEK 4 (14/05/2026)
After completing my research and designer/brand analysis last week, this week I need to put the inspiration, inspiration study, mood board, and Q-logo sections into the sketchbook.
I'm going to redo the mood board... because the one I made was just too ugly... I can't accept it appearing in my sketchbook.
After completing the sketchbook, I started a new task. Mr. JR said we needed to use old clothes to create a 3D cut on a mannequin, then take photos of the front, side, and back views, print them out, paste them into the sketchbook, and then draw the initial drawing in the sketchbook.
I tried making seven sets, but I thought they looked a bit ugly, so I made them again.
Then I took pictures of them, printed them out, and pasted them into my sketchbook.
Those first seven draping sets were my initial attempts, a process that required continuous discovery and refinement. Placing old clothes on the mannequin required constant adjustments to achieve the desired effect.
WEEK 5 (21/05/2026)
This week I enlarged and printed out the front of the draping from a while ago and also printed out a model picture. Mr. JR asked me to cut out the outline of the printed clothes, paste it onto the model, and then draw it out with tracing paper.
After tracing the lines on the tracing paper, we need to print it out again and color it with markers (dark colors).
I applied the wrong color at first.
Self-Reflection:
I initially misunderstood the colors, but Mr. JR pointed it out to me, and I corrected it.
