WEEK 1 (22/04/2026)

In the first class, Mr. Daniel told us that this semester's focus would be on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), primarily working on a denim recycling project. We would need to make two garments.

This was a group project; I was in a group with Kaiying and Hange. Our chosen topic was "Imperfect Cosmetic Surgery."
We need to create a PowerPoint presentation about this inspiration, and each person also needs to design five ready-to-wear outfits based on the inspiration.

I'm the group leader. I defined the theme, conducted inspiration research, and created the mood board. Kaiying connected our theme with fast fashion, and Hange outlined the SDG basis for our theme.

Self-Reflection:
This was my first time taking Mr. Daniel's class. Initially, Kaiying and I wanted to design clothes based on skin texture. After showing them to Mr. Daniel, he said that we shouldn't let the type of clothes we want to make dictate the theme; instead, we should let the theme guide our design. He gave us the inspiration for this theme.

WEEK 2 (29/04/2026)

In this lesson, we have a simple group presentation where we need to briefly introduce the theme and inspiration.

However, after reviewing our visualization and interpretation, as well as our mood board, Daniel felt that our thinking wasn't deep enough and needed to be redone.

He also told us what a mood board should include. This included content related to the theme and potential fabric treatments.

Following Mr. Daniel's guidance, I redid the visualization and interpretation and the mood board.

After finishing the PowerPoint presentation, we went to the secondhand clothing section that Mr. Daniel had prepared for us and picked out the clothes we wanted to use.

Self-Reflection:
I used to make mood boards based on my own feelings, and I didn't really know what to put on them. After Mr. Daniel taught me, I suddenly understood!

WEEK 3 (06/05/2026)

Before classes started this week, my group members and I came to school on Monday to work on fabric alterations.

My inspiration for fabric modification came from people who want to undergo body modifications and need to have their fat layers cut open. I used two identical pieces of denim as the skin and then sewed three different fabrics inside.

Each of us also drew five sets of design drawings.

During class, a group of girls from other countries came to help us finish these two outfits. Their sewing skills were amazing!

With their help, many of our fabric ideas were made possible.

Then Mr. Daniel said that our fabric alterations weren't distressed enough because our theme was about mending and patching.
So the girls did another job for me.

Self-Reflection:
With the help of those girls, all we needed to do was draw the design and make patterns. During the classes with them, I also learned many sewing skills, such as using paper to help sew in the gaps.

WEEK 4 (13/05/2026)

We'll start pattern-making this week. Mr. Daniel has chosen two designs from Hange.

Based on the design drawings, we began prototyping and Calico testing.

I made the pattern for the second dress.

After I finished drawing the pattern, I handed it over to my team members to sew.

Self-Reflection:
Making the pattern for this dress was actually quite difficult because Mr. Daniel said we didn't know what the model would look like. So, I doubled the measurements from Kaiying's bust size. This way, if it's too big, we can shorten it.

WEEK 5 (20/05/2026)
With Ms. Melina's help, we completed the pattern for the irregular-shaped top. After I drew the stitch lines on the pattern, I cut it out for calico testing.

After sewing it, I felt the lower left part was too small, so I revised the original pattern and added 20 centimeters.

After the revisions, I feel they better fit our design.

Self-Reflection:

During the calico testing of the top, I felt my pattern-making skills improved.

WEEK 6 (27/05/2026)

After completing the calico testing, I began the final sewing work. Kaiying, Hange, and I went to SS15's 2nd Street and bought fourteen white shirts. We cut out the back pieces of each shirt, sewed them into a single piece of fabric, and then ironed them. Then we cut out the pattern and started sewing.

Lining too.

Because both sleeves of this shirt needed to be stuffed with cotton, we started stuffing the sleeves with cotton after we finished sewing the lining.

The result after all the filling is complete:

Self-Reflection:

Making the garment was quite difficult because there were some unforeseen issues. For example, after stuffing the sleeves with cotton, the cuffs were hard to sew up because they were too thick to gather.
